About the journal

JGPCM publishes peer-reviewed work on communication and media from every region of the world, and brings academic researchers and working practitioners into the same conversation.

Aims and scope

The Journal of Global Perspectives in Communication and Media publishes original research, reviews, theoretical and methodological work, case studies, and practice notes on communication and media in their global, regional, and local settings. We are particularly interested in work that connects scholarship with practice: research that practitioners can use, and analysis from practice that meets scholarly standards of evidence.

Topics include:

  • Journalism, news, and the news industry
  • Political communication and public opinion
  • Misinformation, disinformation, and their correction
  • Digital, social, and platform media
  • Artificial intelligence and communication
  • Media systems, media policy, and media and communication law
  • Health, science, and environmental communication
  • Intercultural and international communication
  • Cultural and creative industries
  • Communication technologies and research methods

Submissions may focus on any country or region, or compare several. Research on contexts that are under-represented in the communication literature is especially welcome.

Who we publish for

Researchers, teachers, and students of communication and media, and practitioners in journalism, law, policy, technology, and public communication who want research they can use.

Publication model

  • Diamond open access. Articles are free to read, and authors pay nothing: no submission fees and no article processing charges. See the open access statement.
  • Licence. Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Authors retain copyright.
  • Peer review. Double-anonymous review by at least two independent reviewers. See the peer review policy.
  • Frequency. One volume per calendar year. Articles are published online as soon as they are accepted and copyedited, and are collected into two issues per year, in June and December.
  • Language. English.
  • Indexing. Every article page carries citation metadata read by Google Scholar and reference managers. The journal intends to apply to the Directory of Open Access Journals once it meets DOAJ's eligibility requirements. We list an index here only after the journal has been accepted into it.

Academics and practitioners

The journal has two boards. The academic editorial board handles manuscripts and makes publication decisions. The practitioner advisory board, whose members work in law, journalism, technology, and psychology, advises on scope and relevance, reviews practice notes alongside an academic reviewer, and helps bring practitioner authors to the journal. Decisions on manuscripts always rest with the editors.

History

JGPCM was founded in 2024 by communication scholars in the United States and Nigeria. Its first issue, Volume 1 (2025), focused on communication and media in Nigeria. From Volume 2 (2026), the journal runs a general open call and considers work on any country or region.

The journal moved from its original website to this address in 2026. In September 2026, Volume 1 was reissued as individual article files with their own pages and citation details; see corrections and notices.
