Call for papers: Volume 2 (2026)

JGPCM invites research articles, reviews, practice notes, and other work on communication and media from any country or region. There are no fees to submit or to publish.

Submissions are open now and are reviewed as they arrive.

For publication in 2026: manuscripts received by 30 October 2026 and accepted by 11 December 2026 will be published online before the end of 2026 in Volume 2.

After that: manuscripts are considered for Volume 3 (2027) and published online as soon as they are accepted.

A faster timeline does not mean a lighter review. Every research manuscript goes to at least two independent reviewers, and submission does not guarantee acceptance.

What we are looking for

We welcome work on any topic in the journal's aims and scope, about any country or region, and comparative work across several. For this volume we especially want:

  • Research that people working in journalism, law, policy, technology, or public communication could put to use, and practice notes written by or with those practitioners.
  • Studies of communication and media outside North America and Western Europe, and comparisons across regions.
  • Work on misinformation and its correction, artificial intelligence and communication, platform governance, media law and policy, and political communication.
  • Methodological contributions, including computational, experimental, and mixed-methods designs.
  • Theoretical work that tests whether established communication theories hold outside the contexts where they were developed.

Judged on soundness, not novelty

Reviewers for this volume are asked whether the methods are rigorous, the analysis is appropriate, and the conclusions follow from the evidence. They are not asked to predict novelty or impact. We therefore welcome sound work that other journals often decline for reasons unrelated to its quality:

  • null and negative results;
  • replications and extensions of published studies;
  • confirmatory or incremental studies that add evidence to an open question;
  • studies of a single country, community, or platform, especially outside North America and Western Europe.

This is a different standard, not a lower one. Every research manuscript still goes to at least two independent reviewers, and weak designs, unsupported claims, and research without appropriate ethical safeguards are declined.

Previously reviewed manuscripts

If your manuscript was reviewed and declined elsewhere, you may attach those reviews and a short memo on how you addressed them. This is optional and never a condition of review. Our reviewers still assess the manuscript independently, but a carefully revised paper usually moves through review faster. Remove anything that identifies the earlier reviewers.

Why publish with JGPCM

  • No submission fees, no article processing charges, and no paywall.
  • You keep the copyright. Articles are published under CC BY 4.0.
  • Each article gets its own page with full citation details and metadata that Google Scholar and reference managers can read, plus a permanent PDF.
  • Accepted articles go online as soon as they are copyedited, without waiting for an issue to fill.
  • Our editorial board includes practitioners as well as academics, so practice notes are reviewed by people who do the work.

How to submit

  1. Read the submission guidelines.
  2. Prepare three files: an anonymized manuscript (.docx), a separate title page with author details, statements, and the corresponding author's ORCID iD, and a short cover letter. If you have reviews from another journal, add them as a fourth file.
  3. Email them to submissions@jgpcm.org with the subject line Submission: [article type]: [short title].

We send a desk decision, either sent to review or declined, within 14 days of receipt.

Identifiers and indexing

JGPCM is registered under ISSN 3065-548X (online). Every article has its own page with citation metadata read by Google Scholar and reference managers, and a permanent PDF. The journal intends to apply to the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) once it meets DOAJ's eligibility requirements. Inclusion is decided by DOAJ and is not guaranteed; we list an index on this site only after the journal has been accepted into it.

Review for this volume

We are building a standing pool of reviewers who agree to review two to four manuscripts a year in their area. Doctoral candidates with publications and experienced practitioners are welcome alongside faculty. Join the reviewer pool.
